Review
"This book is outstanding! Students will have a better understanding of the importance of research, not just in academia, but in the world beyond institutions of higher learning."--Cary D. Ser, Miami Dade College
"Who Says? is brief and accessible. The authors respond directly to students' digital realities and their understanding of research and to the teacher's reality in the classroom. Students arrive with mixed levels of preparedness and with different research backgrounds, and this book is designed to be useful at all levels."--Robin Lee Mozer, University of Louisville
"Who Says? is very functional. The prose is clear, friendly, authoritative, and student-oriented and the information is excellent, sound, and judicious."--Marilyn Stachenfeld, Saddleback College

A nice short, concise guide with relevant and fun graphics
By Denise S. Ortiz
A nice short, concise guide with relevant and fun graphics. Even the size is unintimidating. I used this text in an Intro. to Research Writing community college class. The tips and end-of-chapter exercises are wonderful---short so you can fit them into one 50-minute class session or alter them to suit your own teaching style. The only thing I dislike is what I would call a slightly condescending attitude toward students. For example, many valuable tips are introduced with phrases like "Students tend to think that....." or "Students often wrongly assume that......" and these are placed in a way that sounds like they place students in a special (low) category of some sort. Even when this is the accurate situation, the savvier students pick up on this subtly of tone. Perhaps they need a bit of this these days? I'm not sure, but I found myself embarrassed to read aloud such sections with my own cherished students.

A clear and concise guide to writing research. I purchased this book for my final english sequence within college, and I found it to be very helpful. There are some chapters that could be shortened. Overall, great read.
