Ann Charters has an acute sense of which stories work most effectively in the classroom and knows that writers, not editors, have the most interesting and useful things to say about the making and the meaning of fiction. Instructors look forward to every new edition of her bestselling anthology to see what stories her constant search for new fiction and neglected classics will turn up. To complement the stories, Charters includes her signature innovation: an array of the writers’ own commentaries on the craft and traditions of fiction. For in-depth, illustrated studies of particular writers or genres, her Casebooks provide unparalleled opportunities for discussion and writing. The new ninth edition features many very recent stories and commentaries by up-and-coming writers, a new Casebook on the important genre of Magical Realism, and expanded coverage of close reading.

DO NOT BUY OR RENT. Especially if you need it for class.
By Jenna Howe
I rented this book for my English 1302 class and it was completely useless. This "compact" version does not have all the stories the physical addition does and they do not offer the full version of the book in an E-book. I tried to read "A Rose for Emily" which is in the table of contents, and when you get to the page number it's just four blank pages telling you the story isn't in the book. WHAT THE HELL GUYS!?! I'm really pissed that I spent my money on renting this useless book. I had to drive an hour and a half to go rent the full version from a book store and it cost me $80.
My other issue is I was on the page for the full edition of this book, clicked the kindle edition and it switches from full version to compact version with out any warning. I thought I was renting the full version. So great job Amazon for screwing me out of my money.

College is a scam
By Jon
I'm spending $45 to rent this useless book for college despite the fact that all of the stories in it can be found online for free by googling their titles. I only needed the book in order to reference the correct page numbers.

Ebook version is worthless.
By BM5k
Ebook Table of Contents doesn't link to actual pages, which totally defeats the purpose of having a digital copy. Don't waste your money.
