An Instant New York Times Bestseller!

Fate and fortune. Power and passion. What does it take to be the queen of a kingdom when you're only seventeen?

Maya is cursed. With a horoscope that promises a marriage of Death and Destruction, she has earned only the scorn and fear of her father's kingdom. Content to follow more scholarly pursuits, her whole world is torn apart when her father, the Raja, arranges a wedding of political convenience to quell outside rebellions. Soon Maya becomes the queen of Akaran and wife of Amar. Neither roles are what she expected: As Akaran's queen, she finds her voice and power. As Amar's wife, she finds something else entirely: Compassion. Protection. Desire...

But Akaran has its own secrets -- thousands of locked doors, gardens of glass, and a tree that bears memories instead of fruit. Soon, Maya suspects her life is in danger. Yet who, besides her husband, can she trust? With the fate of the human and Otherworldly realms hanging in the balance, Maya must unravel an ancient mystery that spans reincarnated lives to save those she loves the most. . .including herself.

A lush and vivid story that is steeped in Indian folklore and mythology. The Star-touched Queen is a novel that no reader will soon forget.

From School Library Journal
Gr 9 Up-Born with a horoscope that predicts a marriage of death and destruction, Maya is an outcast in her father's kingdom, Bharata. When Amar's political machinations go horribly wrong, Maya finds herself married to him and queen of Akaran-a mysterious place filled with secrets and magic. Amar offers Maya the chance to rule at his side and become more than Bharata ever would have allowed. All he asks in return is her patience and trust, which soon prove more than she can give. Her search for answers will lead her across worlds and through her own fragmented memories to discover surprising truths about her husband's kingdom and herself. Maya is refreshingly unapologetic about her ambitions and her desire for independence. Although her distrust and doubts lead to the main conflict of the story, she is quick to own those mistakes and works to correct them even when it might be to her detriment. Chokshi's debut fantasy is filled with vivid and unexpected imagery as Maya discovers the wonders and dangers found in her new home in the Otherworld. Well-researched figures from Hindu folklore and mythology, astonishing creatures, and expressive characters further complement the story. A setting drawn from ancient India, romance with feminist sensibilities, and a unique magic system reminiscent of Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Little, Brown, 2011) make this a novel sure to appeal to fans of Renée Ahdieh's The Wrath and the Dawn (Putnam, 2015). VERDICT A stunning debut filled with lush writing, smart characters, and a mysterious plot that provides as many twists as it does swoons.-Emma Carbone, Brooklyn Public Libraryα(c) Copyright 2011. Beautifully Written Debut
By Alicia @ A Kernel of Nonsense
Roshani Chokshi’s debut novel, The Star-Touched Queen, is full of gorgeous and breath-taking imagery, but fell short when it came to having a clear, structured plot. Maya has always been an outcast, defined by a doomed horoscope since birth. Most regard her with superstition and distrust, viewing her as a walking omen. For Maya, this works in her favor, beside her younger half-sister, Gauri, there is no one in the whole of Bharata that she’d like to spend time with. But inside Maya wants more. Tired of being defined by so-called fate, she plunges head first into the strange world of Akaran, where she is promised the power to define her own future. But her own ambition and need to prove herself threaten to become her downfall.

While I really liked Maya’s character arc, it became a guessing game for a large portion of the novel, as I tried to figure out what its main conflict was. Bharata was on the brink of war when Maya left for Akaran and her disappearance becomes a catalyst, but as time plays tricks in this mysterious kingdom, we as readers are left in the dark, waiting for something significant to happen with the overall plot of the story. It isn’t until we are nearing the end of the novel that we learn of Bharata’s fate. While not a long novel, it did feel like I had to wait an awfully long time for the story to actually take off. I also had a hard time feeling invested in Amar’s character. Though Maya is spellbound by him and their relationship is meant to feel like destiny, there are certain elements at play that kept me from truly understanding his character and looking back, I still don’t feel like I got to know him as much as I did Maya. If more time had been devoted to his own character development, I think I would have liked reading about the evolution of their relationship more.

The kingdom of Akaran itself is a rich and enchanting setting. There are mysteries behind every door, entities lurking about that aren’t quite what they seem, and magic that is at once awe-inspiring as well as frightening. The Star-Touched Queen plays with the idea of fate versus free-will: are our choices ours or have they already been determined? Chokshi’s writing is otherworldly and at times I had to pause just so I could admire the way she uses language to paint such a lovely and vivid picture of this world. There’s such potential in her writing, I’m fairly confident the next book will be an improvement upon this one. There’s a specific minor character in this novel that I felt more drawn to than the protagonist. Her story seemed really interesting and compelling, despite knowing very little of her journey. If you’ve read the synopsis to the follow-up novel, A Crown of Wishes, you’ll know who I’m referring to. I wasn’t sure about this novel getting a sequel, but knowing who it will be focused on makes me pretty excited about it.

Beauitful writing and unique concepts, but disappointing characters and insta-love romance
By Jorelene
**My reviews contain no spoilers**

Rating: 3/5 stars

The Star-Touched Queen is a book that’s been recently buzzing in the book community. The majority of ARC reviews were glowing, and the synopsis has such unique concepts. Once the release day approached, I couldn’t get my hands on it fast enough.

I started reading this as soon as I could. I really enjoyed the writing style and exposure to Indian mythology, but unfortunately other parts of the book fell flat for me. Some parts of the book that didn’t appeal to me as much were the prevalence of tropes, confusing explanations, and an eye-rolling romance.

This book is filled with lyrical writing that has vivid imagery with deep meanings. There’s a storytelling feel throughout that’s immersive and comforting. You know how some books have intentionally vague descriptions so that readers can create their own scenery themselves? Well, this book instead gives detailed illustrations that appeals to all of your senses.

Both being vague and being detailed are great in their own rights, but I think this type of story is better detailed because of the unfamiliarity most readers would have with some concepts. Right from the beginning of the book, I felt like I was in a new world, and what a beautifully described world that was. That being said, the depth of descriptions was sometimes too much – there were times when descriptions would either have too much flourish to fully grasp, or even contradict previous sentences.

There are unique and interesting concepts in the premise, some of which that aren’t found in the typical young adult novel. The book is based on Indian culture and mythology. The Indian culture aspects of the book include harems, arranged marriages, and women being greatly inferior to men. Of course, the protagonist, Maya, tries to fight the last of those. Indian mythology aspects include horoscopes, riddles, and talking animals. I learned so much Indian folklore by reading this book, and I really loved that.

Another reason I became immersed in the story was because I grew to become very fond of a few of the minor characters. I really enjoyed reading about the non-romantic relationships throughout the book because they were built very well and tied together seamlessly. I’d love to see where the secondary characters’ individual stories go after this book.

Although the overall concept of the book is unique, I didn’t find many other aspects of the book particularly refreshing. Maya is what is known in the young adult fiction community as a “special snowflake”. She has this horoscope that ostracizes her and makes people scared of her, although she acts like any other typical teenage girl would in her situation. I found some of Maya’s decisions to be too rash and not thought out well. However, she did have good character development over the course of the book, which I appreciated. I found myself liking her more at the end of the book, but I still couldn’t completely click with her.

In addition to the protagonists, I just didn’t get the romance. Initially, I couldn’t see why the male protagonist pursued Maya for any other reason than her being “special”. While it was explained later in the book, I didn’t feel a bond with the main characters to really care what was happening to them much. Even with later explanations for why the main male character pursued Maya, there were definitely still marks of insta-love. I suppose when I encounter anything resembling love at first sight, my tolerance dissipates – I therefore didn’t enjoy the romance, which was a large portion of the book.

That being said, I know that a lot of people would enjoy the romance. There were cute scenes that I know I would’ve been absolutely fangirling over if I liked the couple. The love in this book was the kind that I would daydream about when I was younger. However, now that I prefer romance that’s more slow building and realistic, I didn’t find the romance in this book appealing.

I wanted to love this book so badly, and I was very excited to read it. I even pre-ordered it, and I very rarely pre-order books. I loved the beginning of the book, but then my enjoyment passed after a certain point. When the book started going downhill on me, I wanted to skim it, but I did my best to go through it slowly to appreciate the writing and to convince myself to enjoy it. However, I couldn’t find myself giving it more than three stars after I finished it. In addition to the tropes that I mentioned, I was also left with a sense of confusion of how some fantasy portions of the book work. Perhaps I wasn’t fully paying attention at a few points, but I’m fairly certain that descriptions on some fantasy technicalities were scattered and not explained properly.

This book was written as a standalone, so the story ties together and there’s no cliffhanger. The author is in the process of writing a companion novel, so readers who enjoy this book will be able to stay immersed in this world. I’ll definitely be more wary of the next book – however, I love Chokshi’s writing style, so I’m crossing my fingers that the next book will appeal to me more. I’ll probably pick it up, especially since it’s going to focus on a minor character in this book that I actually really bonded with.

I would recommend this book to people who are okay with reading about a special snowflake and insta-love for the benefits of beautiful writing and a vivid world. Overall, I would say this book was reminiscent of a more complex Disney fairy tale. I know that this book would appeal to a lot of people – it just happened to have tropes that I have low tolerance for. If I went back a few years to my high school self who didn’t mind things like insta-love, then this book would easily be one of my favorites of the year.

A confusing read that slightly delivers.
By Love of Reading 2017
10 Things I Loved About This Book:
Maya is a strong main character. She's flawed, but very likeable.
The Raja, Maya's father, was a...complicated man, but he had his redeeming qualities.
The characterization of the Harem women was so on point! I literally hated Mother Dhina; well, up until the end, which is when I began to love her!
Guari! She just seemed so adorable and I loved that she grew up to be so strong.
This book is extremely unique in it's world-building. There's succulent fruit that looks like jewels and a variety of other things.
Kamala was the BEST flesh eating demon horse ever! I loved her, she was soooo freaking likeable!
The idea of threads in a carpet representing individual people was new to me & a very cool idea.
The memory tree was a very cool idea!
Not to mention the cover, it's gorgeous!
Diverse characters rule in this book!

10 Things I Didn't Like About This Book:
Amar seemed paper thin to me. He's supposed to be the love of Maya's life, but he seems to lack passion.
The world-building, while interesting, was extremely confusing at time. I literally stopped reading this book at page 80, and then restarted just so I could get a better grasp of what I was reading.
I'm still not sure how three stars, real stars (you know, burning gas) can be used as a hair pin. 0_0
The romance between Amar & Maya seemed forced. There wasn't a gradual increase in their closeness; Amar just trusted her implicitly & she's like...okay, cool.
Gupta was paper thin, as well. It seemed he was only in the story to make it seem like it wasn't all about Maya and Amar (which it is).
This book reminded me of Cruel Beauty. I cannot stand Cruel Beauty.
The first half of this book is a hot mess when it comes to plot and writing. I literally found myself saying "huh?!" every few minutes. The metaphors are just...so bad.
The second half of this book is so different from the first that it was like reading a completely different book. I don't like when that happens.
Nritti was a bunk villain. I honestly didn't even know what the hell was going on when she first appeared in the story. Something about smoke and a voice like something...lol.
The tutor. I don't know what the hell the scene with the tutor was supposed to do, but all it did was confuse me.

Is it a Series or Stand-Alone?
Series, a duology! The next book, A Crown of Wishes, releases 3/28/2017.

If it's a Series, Am I Reading the Next Book?
The next book is about Guari, so I may buy it, but I don't think I'll rush to read it.

Books It Reminds Me Of:
The writing kind of reminds me of two books: Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge and The Program by Suzanne Young.

Much like Cruel Beauty, the Star-Touched Queen is largely focused in a magical castle/palace/home with areas off-limits to the main character; this book also has a rambling plot of Maya wandering around the palace like Cruel Beauty.

Much like the Program, Maya experiences traumatizing things, but then suddenly forgets them. For instance, she forgets what the false tutor told her before she vanquished him. This is so annoying.

My Recommendation:

Buy the Wrath & the Dawn instead.

A Whole Class Under One Cover
By Neferset
Finally! A book that goes over all of the steps from modeling clothing, uv mapping, rigging, and texturing. It even talks about dynamic clothing and multiple ways to add fur to clothing items. It's laid out in a clear, sensible way that makes the tutorials easy to follow. This book would make a great text for classroom use or it would be wonderful used as a stand-alone, self-taught class at home.

Amazon.com Review
Each of the six stories in Chaim Potok's lovely collection is titled simply with the name of the main character, reflecting the essence of these quiet selections--intense, exquisitely drawn portraits of the ordinary lives of young people. In "Zebra" a boy, with the help of a mysterious, unconventional art teacher, begins to regain the use of his crushed hand--and in the process heals a bit of his injured spirit. Secrets abound in "B.B.," where a young girl whose baby brother has died must cope with discovering the hidden realities about her family that are "too much of a secret for me to be carrying alone." "Nava" describes how a young woman handles a bully, calling upon the strength inspired by the words of a Native American family friend to confront a violent drug dealer.

The issues faced by these young adults--trust, divorce, grief, hope, peer and family dynamics--are common coming-of-age milestones. But what makes Potok's powerful work shine is that he clearly holds respect for the intelligence and intuition of young people, allowing them to decipher their own truths--refraining from preaching or hammering a point home. Potok, author of The Chosen, published several of these stories previously in adult publications. Nevertheless, these voices never sound dubiously mature for their teen years; they speak the straightforward, often strikingly insightful language of youth. As one young character notes, "I think losing your soul is when you can't tell a story about something that has happened to you." Indeed. Judging by the quality and craftsmanship of these tales, it's obvious that Potok is brimming with soul. (Ages 12 and older). --Brangien Davis

From Publishers Weekly
Potok (The Chosen) turns out an uneven collection of six stories, each featuring a teenager in transition. Their predicaments, for the most part, are inventive and resonant: B.B.'s mother is at the hospital in labor when B.B.'s father leaves the cataclysmic message that he is walking out; Nava learns from her Vietnam-vet dad how to defend herself against a particularly aggressive drug pusher; Isabel's newly widowed mother meets and marries a widower with a daughter near Isabel's age. The title story, which opens the book, is the exception: predictable and flimsily peopled, it describes a gravely injured boy's psychic healing through an art class. The other entries allow for more ambiguity, leaving small lacunae in the narratives for intelligent readers to fill in. The characterizations, unfortunately, tend to be incomplete or unconvincing. Nava, for example, uses expressions like "about the time... my menstrual blood began to flow"; B.B.'s gender is kept a secret from the reader; drummer Moon Vinten, a rebellious 13-year-old who dyes his ponytail blue, tacks up Beatles photos in his bedroom. Readers who don't mind the somewhat wooden nature of the protagonists will probably enjoy the adult feel of Potok's suggestive silences. Ages 11-16.

From School Library Journal
Grade 9 Up-Exhibiting the same keen insight into the feelings, actions, and reactions of young adults that is apparent in his adult novels, Potok explores, in each of these six short stories, the manner in which his teen protagonists respond to personal crises or major life changes. Most often it is by means of a relationship with a new acquaintance, either real or imagined. Nearly all of the main characters deal with their problems-bodily injury, a devastating family secret, the death of a loved one, harassment, parental remarriage, a fascination with violent death-in ways that demonstrate the strength and goodness inherent in the human spirit. Some of the solutions are disturbingly nontraditional, and several touch on sensitive issues (for example, the thrill of hunting live game and the awakening of lesbian tendencies). All of the stories are thought-provoking and gripping; the characters and their personal dilemmas will linger with readers.

Full-strength
By b.a.
I've read nearly everything written by Chaim Potok and continue to be amazed as his rare insight into interpersonal relationships and spiritual growth. Yes, these stories center on the coming of age struggles of teenage protagonists, but make no mistakes this is not a children's book. The stories are full-strength celebrations of self-discovery. Iqbal Massih, Senator Heinz, and "married" stepsisters
By Gneissguy
The story "Moon" is based on the tragic life of Iqbal Massih, a Pakistani boy who fought against child labor and was murdered in Pakistan at the age of 12, after returning from a visit to the U. S. Pakistan should erect a memorial to Iqubal, but instead the country's elite live off the labor of thousands of children who live in abject poverty with no hope for any better future.

The aircraft collision that happens over Emmie's school as described in the story "Max," in which a "United States senator" is killed, is a fairly accurate description of the accident that killed Republican Senator H. John Heinz of Pennsylvania in 1991. Two first-grade girls were killed when the helicopter fell into the schoolyard at Merion Elementary School in a suburb of Philadelphia--only 30 feet from the main building. The airplane fell on the other side of the building. Along with Sen. Heinz, both the pilots and co-pilots of the airplane and helicopter were also killed. Sen. Heinz's widow, Teresa, inherited almot $1 billion after her husband's death. She later married Democratic Senator and presidential candidate John Kerry.

The two stepsisters in "Isabel" are symbolically "married" when Betsy slips one of her late mother's rings on Isabel's finger--immediately after the wedding of Betsy's father and Isabel's widowed mother. On their parents' wedding night, as Betsy enters Isabel's room, Isabel remarks "Daddy wouldn't've wanted me to be alone," echoing her mother's earlier remark about her late husband's wishes for her. Repetition at it's Best
By A Customer
I give credit to Chaim Potok for having the courage to write this novel, however I believe that he tried to accomplish something that is well out of his graps. He tried to firmly describe a young teenager's feelings about the world and their personal feelings, and went about it all wrong. Although, I do reccomend this book to any adult who is trying to understand teenagers, this book is an excellent first step. Granted, some of the stories are interesting, but the element of repetition is too commen. The same theme or idea or conflict is the same in the "different" stories. But overall, Bravo to Mr. Potok who had the courage to break new ground.

Rena's Promise: A Story of Sisters in Auschwitz, by Rena Kornreich Gelissen, Heather Dune Macadam

An expanded edition of the powerful memoir about two sisters' determination to survive during the Holocaust featuring new and never before revealed information about the first transport of women to Auschwitz

Sent to Auschwitz on the first Jewish transport, Rena Kornreich survived the Nazi death camps for over three years. While there she was reunited with her sister Danka. Each day became a struggle to fulfill the promise Rena made to her mother when the family was forced to split apart--a promise to take care of her sister.

One of the few Holocaust memoirs about the lives of women in the camps, Rena's Promise is a compelling story of the fleeting human connections that fostered determination and made survival a possibility. From the bonds between mothers, daughters, and sisters, to the links between prisoners, and even prisoners and guards, Rena's Promise reminds us of the humanity and hope that survives inordinate inhumanity.

From Publishers Weekly
Imagining that, by volunteering for a work camp, she would somehow be protecting her family from the Nazis, Rena, at age 17, put on her best clothes, left her fiance and the Polish village of Tylicz in the Carpathian Mountains and was sent off to Auschwitz. Presently, her sister Danka arrived, as did cousins, schoolmates and neighbors. As a child, she had promised her mother to look after her baby sister, and that promise obsessed her throughout her incarceration in the camp. It gave her reason to survive, so that one day she could bring Danka safely home. How they escaped starvation, beatings, the crematorium, the medical experiments of the notorious Josef Mengele and survived the end of the war is all recounted here in this spirited survivor's testament, written with freelancer Macadam. After the war, Rena married a Red Cross worker and emigrated to the U.S., following her sister.

From Library Journal
Gelissen, who was on the first Jewish transport to Auschwitz, describes in this account the constant struggle for survival in the camp. She soon learns there were no guarantees. Rena's motivation came strongly from a promise to her parents to keep her younger sister, Danka, safe. Her account describes the relentless specter of death while at the same time showing how prisoners would risk their lives to smuggle medicine, clothes, and food to other prisoners. Because Rena was an early prisoner in Auschwitz, she describes some of the confusion at the beginning and the realization of what was really happening to the Jewish people. Helpful features of the book include historical notes and a section describing the fate of the people the sisters knew. This memoir captures the horror of Auschwitz in a clear way that helps the reader understand the atrocities perpetrated there. Recommended for Holocaust collections.

Review
"Rena’s Promise is written with simplicity and grace. . . . The overwhelming feeling upon finishing is one of triumph: It is still possible to find selflessness and human connection among people living in a place of relentless horror."—Los Angeles Times Book Review

“A poignant and important act of remembrance.” —Sir Martin Gilbert, author of The Holocaust: The Human Tragedy

“An extraordinary book, vividly written and generously told. You will not easily forget Rena Kornreich and her sister Danka. Nor should you. Harrowing as it often is, this is less a tragedy than a love story. By turns soul-wrenching, inspiring, and heartbreaking, this is a tale that should live long beyond the wonderful woman who inspired it.” —Alexandra Fuller, author of Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight

“Through her actions during and after the Shoah, Rena Kornreich Gelissen ensured that out of the darkest night, the light of the survivors and their memory remained. Faced with destruction, she and the Jewish people survived.” —Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks

“Rena’s Promise went with us on the Zen Peacemakers’ first pilgrimage to Auschwitz in 1996. On our first night together, one of our monks shared a simple message of love from Rena to us. Her message changed our lives.” —Peter Matthiessen, author of In Paradise

“One of the most accurate accounts, and the only account of the first women’s camp in Auschwitz. This is a book historians will refer to for years to come.” —Irena Strezlecka, director, Auschwitz Museum of Women, Oswiecim, Poland

This is a book filled with melancholy wisdom and bitter artistry.... A miraculous message...a voice which we must heed and honor. --Mike Fink, Rhode Island Jewish Herald "A personal story of courage....[Rena's] first-person account is an illustration of the power of love, even in the face of the Nazi killing machine." --Paul Nowell, Associated Press "Deeply moving." --Dena Taylor, San Francisco Chronicle

Gripping! Unforgettable.
By Jasminet
Seldom do I read a book where I want it to go on longer. I'm usually ready to move on. Knowing Rena survived made it easier to read because I grew to admire and love her. A single potato peel found on the ground was a mouthwatering bit of food and she saved half for her sister! Incredible. What an engaging story.
How can a person survive all she did? Would I have had the ability to endure all that heartache? I am afraid of the answer.
My most touching moment was when she felt her Mama by her at the end. There's no doubt in my mind, she really was helping Rena get through those last days of captivity. After all the months of starvation, to be forced to march across the frozen land, stepping over bodies in the road, and still worrying about others,
I was humbled by her amazing spirit.
RIP, Rena and all those amazing people who ended up in the clutches of the Nazis, some for years, some for minutes.
Never will I forget them!

Once in a while a story comes along that is so amazing . . .
By webdevgirl
Once in a while a story comes along that is so amazing and so eloquently told that it takes your breath away. This is one such story. I could not put it down. I've been a student of the Holocaust for nearly 40 years -- since I saw my first documentary on TV at the age of 16 and set out on a quest to understand why and how such an event could happen. This story is unique in that it adeptly illustrates someone who manages to maintain their sense of humanity despite all invitations to do otherwise. There is a soft strength to Rena and a level of caring that the world is so in need of today. Rena, wherever you are now, thank you for your courage in telling your story and thank you, Heather, for the love and care you gave and continue to give to Rena, Danke, and the others through your dedication to and loving care of their story. I, for one, will never forget.

Survival and Compassion
By Dorcas Nepple
Rena's Promise is most definitely the best memoir I have ever read on the Holocaust. Rena's story shows how compassion for her sister gave her the courage and will to live, no matter what harrowing circumstances she encountered. Having arrived on the first transport of women in 1942, Rena survived more than three years in the Auschwitz-Berkenau concentration camp--a feat that amazed even her captors. The facts are researched and well-documented. From initially thinking how bad can a labor camp possibly be (after all she was raised on a farm and used to hard work), to the dawning realization that this was hell on earth, I was riveted by Rena's courage, cleverness, and most of all her compassion for her sister, Danke. How Rena and her sister managed to survive starvation, beatings, illness, elude Dr. Mengele, and even the infamous death march in 1945, is a story I could not put down and not forget.

This review would not be complete without acknowledging the beautiful writing of the woman who helped her write her memoir, Heather Dune Macadam.

Great tribute to Mega Man
By Parka
[[VIDEOID:moERKWO980BAUY]]Mega Man: Official Complete Works is actually a half of the 336-page Japanese art book "R20" which was published in March 2008 to celebrate Mega Man's 20th anniversary. It's nice to have Capcom translate the book into English. The other half is Mega Man X: Official Complete Works.

This book retains the paperback format, low gloss pages and layout. The cover has a glossy embossed Mega Man printed against a matte cover. It's very beautiful and Mega Man pops out nicely.

There are both good and bad in releasing the original book as two volumes in English. The bad, of course, is the higher price. The good is the it's thinner and more friendly to the book spine. By comparison, my 320-page "SF20: The Art of Street Fighter", also from Capcom, has slight spine creases when I open the book wide.

The art inside is arranged by chronological order and game platforms. The book is filled with colourful character designs, sketches and illustrations from game covers, manga and other merchandise. The variety is amazing. The pages are packed with so many versions of powered up Mega Man, the bosses and enemies. Whatever you can think of is probably found in this book.

It's nostalgic looking at some of the art, especially those that I've played so many years ago. There are a few comic strips behind and one interesting one is on the birth of Mega Man. There aren't any screen shots of the game itself though.

Accompanying the designs are lots of quotes from the Japanese artists. They talk about the characters, ideas, and you can gain some interesting insight into their working environment. There are 7 artists doing the designs and they are Ryuji Higurashi, Hayato Kaji, Keisuke Mizuno, Tatsuya Yoshikawa, Hideki Ishikawa, Shinsuke Komaki and Yoshihisa Tsuda.

This book is a great tribute to the Mega Man franchise, highly recommended to all fans.

If you like this book, check out Mega Man X: Official Complete Works also.

Great value, loads of nostalgia.
By V. Romero
I only recently got into Mega Man, but I wish I had much sooner. The NES games were phenomenal, and I quickly became a fan. So I wanted more Mega Man.

Being a bibliophile, my attention quickly went to books. And so I found this art book.

It's a basic art book, but it contains a lot, if not all, the artwork done for the classic Mega Man games. There's box arts, sketches, the Robots--you name it.

A very good art book with enough to satiate any Classic Mega Man/Rockman fan.

For any fan of classic Mega Man!
By Ryan Carlo
It's hard to explain the joy of seeing this after watching the product page for months and enduring a minor delay. I'll make it simple, Mega Man: Official Complete Works is a translated art book that features classic Mega Man art of all sorts. Well, it's half of a Japanese artbook anyway. The other half being what we have as the Mega Man X: Official Complete Works, I'd think it's more convenient for different sides of the fanbase that way, and at a lower price point.

Anyhow...Promotional art, enemies, bosses, anniversary pictures, international covers, level sketches, you name it! I can't believe the the amount of pure art that's packed within these pages, all beautiful enough to look at again and again. One of the best parts of any art book, at least for me, are the comments from the original artists saying how they thought about a particular piece. You really get to see the passion put into what seems like 'standard' promotional art. Other things like a mini manga showing the origin of Mega Man and an interview with Keiji Inafune help round out an already great release.

Udon obviously put heart into bringing this over, and it shows. The translation seems pure yet recognizable to any Mega Man fan, with art that isn't messed with at all. For example, for each section by game, it uses the original 'Rockman' Japanese logos with translation notes put to the side, and it saves what could be messy editing as well as pleasing any art purists. The book is printed gorgeously as well, with plenty of full color art on really nice paper in a nice paperback binding. This is my first art book from them, and well, I'm very impressed! I'll be looking into their other art books for sure.

All and all, I say get this art book if you have even a shred of interest! If you are a classic Mega Man/Rockman fan who wants to see some great art and more, in a nice complete and shiny package, it's worth every penny.
