About the Author

Edward Steichen was an American photographer, painter, designer, and curator. Born in 1879, Steichen emigrated from Luxembourg to the United States with his family in 1881. Steichen began as a self-taught photographer and gained recognition after his work was discovered by photographers Clarence H. White and Alfred Stieglitz. Steichen’s work was often featured in Stieglitz’s influential magazine Camera Work. In 1947, Steichen became the director of MoMA’s photography department. Undoubtedly his most influential and popular exhibition as director was the 1955 show The Family of Man. Presenting what Steichen referred to as a “collective portrait” of humanity, the exhibition featured 503 photographs from 68 countries, 273 of which were taken by amateur photographers.

Carl Sandburg was an American writer, poet, and editor. He was the recipient of three Pulitzer Prizes: one for a biography of Abraham Lincoln and two additional for his poetry. Hailed as a poet whose work connected to a plurality of experiences, Sandburg provided a prologue well suited for Steichen’s universalizing photo narrative.

Absolutely beautiful photo collection. I heard about this collection through a photography art history course and had to find the book. Now it's a fantastic coffee table book and its compelling collection ranges from influential photographers in the early years of artistic photography.

Professor D. Larry Crumbley, CPA, CFD, Cr.FA, is the KPMG Endowed Professor in the Department of Accounting at Louisiana State University. He has published more than 300 articles in accounting journals and authored more than 50 books. He is the long-time editor of the Oil, Gas & Energy Quarterly and founding editor of the Journal of Forensic Accounting, Auditing, and Fraud & Risk. Professor Crumbley was a member of the AICPA's Litigation and Dispute Resolution Services Subcommittee Fraud Task Force and is on the Fraud Deterrence Board of National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts. He has served on the Executive Board of the American Board of Forensic Accounting (ACFEi). Lester E. Heitger, CPA, is a Professor in the Department of Accounting at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, where he teaches forensic accounting. Professor Heitger has served as a forensic accountant and/or testified as an expert witness in more than 30 cases over a 20-year period. G. Stevenson Smith is a Professor of Accounting at West Virginia University. He is a CMA and a CPA, as well as a Certified Cost Analyst. Professor Smith received his Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas and received his M.B.A. from Michigan State University. A Practical Handbook

I am lucky enough to have had one of the authors as an instructor for both semesters this school year. We used this textbook for one of those classes. The authors' years of forensic accounting experience out in the field are readily apparent. This book is likely the most practical, real-world training aid that I have seen in my time at grad school. It is an interesting read and full of examples of actual cases related to forensic accounting. If you want to know what forensic and investigative accountants do, then this is your book.

Beautiful but trite

I wanted to like these cards, but they're painfully trite. The plus side is they are beautiful to look at: gorgeous colors, nice gold edging, and nice box. But I found most of the affirmations too trite. "I love my food, and my food loves me." REALLY? Maybe these are okay for simpicity's sake. There are certainly a few cards in there that are insightful and/or that make good reminders. But I guess overall I prefer a little more depth. I like the idea of daily inspiration, but this just doesn't do it for me. This has inspired me to collect all the quotes I have found inspiring over the years, and compile my own custom deck.

I love this deck

I love this deck. The designs are colorful and pop right out at you. The white font on such a colorful background also helps to bring the message forward on each card. I like the sturdiness of the box to keep the cards in, and I also like the silver edges to the cards. The card stock is very sturdy. I plan on using these for my daily draws and for journaling.

One thing I noticed on the image provided on Amazon is that it says "A 62-card deck and guidebook," however, my card deck did not come with a guidebook. And the cover of my box doesn't have the same thing written at the top - it only says "A 62-card deck." This is a little misleading, and would hope that there will be some clarity on this in the future. But for now, I like working with the cards alone as the messages are clear enough on each card to be able to interpret them. I'm really enjoying these cards!

The cards are sturdy and edged in silver which adds a nice touch

I only know her work through Instagram so I expected pithy statements and that's what these are. The key phrase is italicized and something I can remember throughout the day. I'm a sucker for this color palette and the dreamy galaxy backdrop. The cards are sturdy and edged in silver which adds a nice touch. I did have to pry each card apart from the deck but there were no tears in the process so I'm hopeful the quality will endure.

Before that, from the time of the Black Death until the end of the 18th century, families had many different forms. She also argues that we are once again seeing the emergence of new kinds of families, e.g., households headed by gay couples, single-mothers, etc.

"The Family in the Western World" proves to be a fast read that does not insult one's intelligence. The author knows how to grab the reader's attention with relevant detail, crisp writing and punctuated revelations of fact. Anyone who would like to learn more about how the institution of "family" has evolved over the centuries needs to read this book. Our culture's current angst over what constitutes a family might be ameliorated if the proponents of the various suggested types of families spend some time with this book learning about historical similarities and differences which can be either found or reflected or discounted in our practices. Those who hold the proposition that a valid marriage is made so by a presiding religious person might, perhaps, be surprised to discover that in Europe, when it was much more religious than it is today, the presence of a religious person conducting a wedding unto marriage was not required except in certain places and in certain times, mostly in the premodern/modern times. Quick, light, relaxing read

I read the Kindle version. I'm a fan of Karl, and have read all his books at some point. If you're read his others, you know that he basically just describes the events that happen in his shows, with a little more perspective, and some anecdotes thrown in. This is no different. I have a broken leg right now, and reading this was a great de-stressor. Highly recommended for a light and relaxing read. I finished it in a couple of reading sessions.

Look elsewhere for a book about Peyton Manning

This book fails. It reads like a poorly written high school English assignment. There seems to have been little to no proof reading (grammatical errors) or fact checking (e.g. Ryan Leaf played his college football at Miami??). Furthermore, the book doesn't appear to contain a single interview and draws highly questionable conclusions from what can loosely be construed as facts. You're better off reading about Peyton Manning on Wikipedia.

This book, “Peyton Manning: The Inspiring Story of One of Football's Greatest Quarterbacks,” was overall a fantastic book. It was, however, ideally made for someone looking for a general description of Peyton Manning and someone who is looking for a great success story to look up to. It would not be the number one source for a large factual resource for someone looking for information on Peyton Manning, ​though.

Look to this book for its inspiration, not professional writing skills. Although there were many editorial/grammatical mistakes, this book is not for the advanced reader— more for the novice looking to get some inspiration. The author, Clayton Geoffreys, is a master of inspiration and uses sports stars in his books to get readers “pumped up” and to achieve a positive outlook on life and his/her own ability.

This book specifically does convey a lot of the important accolades achieved by Peyton Manning as well as his struggles. The layout was well planned out and the facts were accurate. Overall, “Peyton Manning: The Inspiring Story of One of Football's Greatest Quarterbacks” by Clayton Geoffreys is a must-read for sports fans and non-sports fans alike!
