There are many VERY valuable sections to this book. The author explores the different Greek definitions of "love" with amazing clarity and verbal dexterity (the book is the written version of a live seminar). I found it very valuable and am happy to recommend it.

It is- as if I am at a conference and I love it

This is my all time favorite book on relationships in astrology. I have read many Astrology books basic ones, personal ones, instructional ones. The book was made from his lectures and its as if you are there at the lecture itself- which is really cool and its different, this makes it fun to read as well as interesting and insightful. Its one of those books I have that I finished in one shot as its that good. I want to get the Magic Thread as well if its anything like this book I am sure to enjoy that as well. I especially like the 1st 2 parts as they are very free flowing. For technical info the 3rd part will give you chart work then at the end there is a group discussion much like a real astrology conference would give you.

Missing Pages

I bought this book for my son to use during his summer English course. We never noticed that there were missing pages (257-304) until I sold it on Amazon. The buyer had his first assignment on some of those missing pages and returned the book to me. There are no ripped out pages, it just appears that the book was made and sold with those missing pages. I contacted the publisher, Pearson, regarding this issue but they completely ignored me. I would not recommend buying this book until you secure from the seller that all pages are intact.

Had to buy for school, Want to Keep!

This is actually an amazing book in terms of ease of readability and helpfulness in improving writing style. Prior to reading this book, I had a vague (what I thought was thorough) understanding of the different styles of writing. I was raised by very artsy parents who were always enrolling me in writing classes in the hopes that they'd have a kid who was an author someday. Went the other way and became a scientist, and while I loved my years of creative writing, I lost some skill after writing for scientific research. This book gives the basics on how to cite and whatnot, but what I loved was the examples of various styles of writing and how they are broken down. I feel this would benefit people in any career track; creative writers, technical writers, doctors, lawyers, scientists, journalists, sociologists, etc. It's hard to know what skills you're lacking until you read a book that gives you a million new techniques to improve your writing style. It has a great chapter on analysis writing. Frankly, just reading the analysis chapter would benefit a lot of people in their ability to analyze media in general; ads, journals, newspapers, tv.. If you're a student and required to read this, don't hesitate to dig in and actually learn. If you're browsing books and considering this to improve your skills, I think you'll find this very comprehensive, straight forward, and helpful.

Among them was an Alfa Romeo 3.0 GTV, which he drove for three years. It was that car that inspired this book.

an interesting read

The 916 series Alfa Romeos have recently disappeared from the Alfa Sales roster, but have been relatively ignored by the motoring press, and are virtually unknown in the USA since they were never sold here. This book does a credible job of introducing them to American readers, and reviewing them for the rest of the world. It is a good mixture of well-repoduced photographs and technical information, without becoming over-concerned about details. The author doesn't seem to be overly excited about the GTV and Spider, but at least he is honest about their attributes and shortcomings. His lack of enthusiasm was reflected in the market place, which never seemed to accept them as real Alfas, since they are front wheel drive and based on a Fiat platform. They actually deserved much better--they were excellent sporting vehicles that maintained the Alfa tradition of driver-oriented involvement: sporting but not harsh, entertaining but not frightening near the edge, and attractive without being polarizing. This book is absolutely necessary for the alfisti who owns one of these, or wishes that he did.

I was looking at buying a gtv, seeking help and came across this book. Good find! It is the only publication I have found to date, in English or Italian, with such an exhaustive approach. The book is pretty easy going except for the technical descriptions, though this is more my problem than the authors'. I am now waiting to pick up my second hand GTV, after which I will really find out if I agree with books conclusions. I hope so!

Invaluable!!!

I used this text for my ASN from Excelsior College and could not have been happier. This text, along with the accompanying Clinical Skills Text, was invaluable to teaching clinical nursing skills needed to pass the CPNE.

I can honestly say that, not only were these two texts extremely useful during my training & education, but that I will also use these texts to further clarify & develop my nursing skills.

Finally, the complete novel is available again!

A number of sellers are selling condensed or incomplete versions of The History of Sir Charles Grandison. As far as I know, there is only one complete version available - the 1647 page paperback published originally by Oxford University Press in 1986, and currently being reprinted in small quantities by arrangement with a publisher in New Zealand. I am currently writing this review on the page for that editon, although I notice that Amazon has posted reviews for other editions on this same page.

I have owned and read this particular complete edition and recommend it to all those who have the perseverance to read the complete 1640+ pages. Doing so will completely immerse you in the world of 18th century England and introduce you to its virtuous men and women (and the ideals of virtue) as well as its villains. Although we no longer adhere to the ethical standards of the 18th century, many people today are sadly lacking a moral center of gravity and can benefit by exposing themselves to the chivalric code of Sir Charles which so permeates this novel. While some readers will view the key characters in this novel as overly priggish, those who are drawn to fiction with admirable characters and an ethical perspective are likely to greatly appreciate this novel.

The complete Grandison novel is rambling, repetitious and at times tedious but there are some outstanding chapters and sections - book four was my favorite. It was Jane Austen's favorite novel, and in my opinion, is far superior to Richardson's Clarissa which is overly sadistic and melodramatic. Now if only it had been edited down to half its length, Richardson's Grandison might have earned a reputation as his magnum opus. But one way or another, reading Sir Charles Grandison is a major accomplishment, and one a reader is never likely to regret.

In this novel, Richardson presents the ideal male - the answer to what eighteenth century women and society (should) want. It is impossible not to be drawn to the character of Sir Charles and to root for the success of his affairs both worldly and personal.
Contains everything from world travel to duels, and presents all with gentle digs at the social conventions of a world that is, after all, not so different from our own.

I FINALLY FOUND IT

I nearly completed a digital version of this book that I found on Amazon years ago. Although it was the COMPLETE novel because it was a digital copy and this book is in the form of a series of letters, the formatting was not great so some portions were cut off and some were difficult to follow. That is why I am so happy to discover that they have an unabridged paperback (don't be tricked, it has to be the 1986 Oxford University Press version) available. Sure I had to pay almost triple of what a paperback cost today but it is so worth it to have the complete edition. I just started reading it again and let me tell you, it makes a difference in what format you read a book. I have heard that some books do not translate well into Kindle format, I think this would be one of those books. If you can find the version I mentioned above for a reasonable price then I would suggest buying it. To me, this story is almost the exact opposite of Clarissa. Clarissa just made me want to pull my hair out every time she had a discussion with her parents who were forcing her to marry a hideous man just so they could enhance the family fortune. Compared to Clarissa, Sir Charles Grandison is a light hearted version of a man who is nearly perfect but has to choose between two beauties. Oh to have such problems. If your bucket list consist of getting through Clarissa (considered the longest novel around), I would suggest you first read Sir Charles Grandison so you can get a feel for Samuel Richardson's style which at time can be repetitive but nevertheless compelling. I am so happy to have found a complete paperback version of this book for $40. Believe me, it is worth every penny since you will have hours and hours of endless reading so it is...pardon the word...a steal.

the best book to learn how to speak like a native (almost...)

if you are looking for a book that will help you learn how to speak like a native (almost) then look no further. while you won't be able to sound completely like a native, this book will be able to help on your pronunciation of the sounds. this is my all time favorite book that i have came across during my spanish language studies. though the entire book is written in spanish, it can seem intimidating and overwhelming but it definitely help you improve your spanish reading skills. my favorite parts were those that featured the sounds and techniques and styles of the various regions that speak Spanish (Latin America and Spain). whether you are a beginner or not, this is a must-have book for anyone's library and serious about learning spanish

Theoretically sound, good exercises for transcription, also for pronunciation.

Great book

The book arrived in very good condition, I have the answer key which helps when checking your answers. I purchased the answer key of the same edition to prepare for an up coming class. The both can serve as a teaching tool in the future. Although the textbook is different for the class that I am taking the head start by completing the first three chapters of the book has to pay off.
